Placentia Youth Basketball (PYB)
What is Placentia Youth Basketball?
PYB is a league that emphasizes the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and FUN! It is a co-ed league designed for students who enjoy basketball and friendly competition. No formal basketball experience is necessary to participate. Games are played on Saturdays and some Fridays at Oberle Gym or Tynes Gym. Coaching is provided by fully background checked volunteers or city staff.
Proof of grade is required at time of registration (school ID, report card). Birth certificate is also required at time of registration for new program participants.
Registraition night will be held at Oberle gym (Melrose Elementary School) on October, 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Players can also be registered at Placentia City Hall, M-TH 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Registration can also be done any time at www.placentiae.org/classes.
In order for us to build balanced teams your player must attend one of our two skills evaluations at Oberle Gym. The dates are Saturday October 19th and 27th.
Saturdays October 19th and 27th
10:00 a.m. "C" Division - 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades
11:30 a.m. "B" Division - 4th, 5th grades
1:00 p.m. "A" Division - 6th, 7th, 8th grades
The $110 league fee includes 8 guaranteed indoor games, indoor practices, reversible jersey, and awards. Second child enrolled at reduced rate of $100. Division "D" league fees are $50 a player. Multiple player registrations will receive a $10 discount. No extra league or uniform fees will be charged. Head coaches will receive one free player registration (fees will be refunded after the start of the season). Parents can purchase pictures for an additional fee if they wish to do so.
Age Divisions PreK-8th Grade
This league is open to all players PreK through 8th grade. Each division focuses on age appropriate skill building techniques.
Division "D" PreK-Kindergarten
"D" division focuses on fun first and foremost. Dribbling, passing, and shooting skills are also also taught.
Division "C" 1st-3rd Grade
"C" division focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, basic technique, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Division "B" 4th-5th Grade
"B" division also focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork and sportsmanship. Children in this division will learn to polish their basketball skills, and will be introduced to basic plays and strategy.
Division "A" 6th-8th Grade
"A" division reinforces all of the skills from "C" and "B" divisions. Youth in this division will also be introduced to the offensive and defensive strategies used by Jr High and High School teams.
